Here's a gentle reminder – pay your annual dues by March 31 to remain a BMDCO club member.
We ask that you sign up as an Active member only if you can attend three or more club meetings per year. We encourage all others to enroll as Associates. It's essential to our status as a club.
Come romp with us on April 15, 9 a.m. - noon at 1000 Acres Dog Park in Troutdale. Look for a pack of Berners and their people in the parking lot at 9 a.m.
Our own intrepid Joanna Carsen has organized this Berners-out-and-about event. She says to dress for a 3-mile hike/walk along flat and gently rolling trails.
The dogs will have a chance to play in the Sandy River, so bring your dog towels! Remember water for the walk in and out. Feel free to bring snacks for you and your dog.
Watch the BMDCO calendar for specifics of coming events: Monthly board meetings, Berner meet-and-greets, conformation events, carting clinics and much more.
Attending board meetings is a great way to keep up on club business and to put faces to the names of board members. Our meeting agenda may be packed full, yet we also have a doggone good time in the process.
BMDCO board meetings are always open for members to attend. They are normally the first Wednesday of the month at McMenamins in Wilsonville. We meet at 6:30 p.m. to order dinner and socialize. The actual meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. We are seated in one of the private dining areas, so ask the host where to find us.
The BMDCO Group Yahoo list includes all current members. Annual dues were due Jan. 1, so be sure to renew your membership to stay on this list.
Watch your email for an invitation to join this list if you don’t already belong. Feel free to ignore the email should you not wish to join.
The BMDCO Yahoo Group enables us do outreach for volunteers, promote club events and swap wisdom about living with Berners. Members frequently seek input into problem behaviors, perplexing health issues, etc. This online forum is a place to pass on BMD swag we can no longer use.
Please update Berner Garde when you get a new pup or rescue dog – also when you have lost one of your beloved companions.
You can note certificates, titles, health issues, date of death, cause of death, temperament concerns, number of litters and even studies entered. Photos are always a plus!
Help us promote long, healthy lifespans in Berners! Contribute to the Berner-Garde Foundation database so that we can track and, hopefully reduce, the inherited health issues of the breed.

The Bernese Mountain Dog Club of Oregon (BMDCO) was established in 1983 to protect and support the needs of Bernese Mountain Dogs. We proudly boast a membership of over 150 people, with more joining all the time.
New members are always welcome - you needn’t own a Bernese Mountain Dog to belong to the club.
Put April 9, 1 p.m.-4 p.m. at Dogtown PDX on your calendar because we have a great meeting lined up for you.
As part of our on going initiative to include educational information during our General Meeting/Play Days, the April 9 session will include canine CPR training!
We are making a small change to how we organize the time because we want to make the most of our meeting presentations:
During the meeting and training, we ask that any dogs who aren’t comfortable being leashed and sitting quietly by your side be put away in your vehicle or in crates available at the facility.
See our calendar for details.

We've teamed up with sister clubs for Alaska, Greater Seattle and Inland Northwest to bring this event to the Airport Holiday Inn, Portland.
Watch for details on club activities during the event and calls for volunteers.

We had a capacity turnout for our introductory drafting clinic last March. Dogs and humans alike overcame the initial strangeness of the gear to parade around the practice arena like nobody's business.
Big puppy-pile hugs go to Jennifer Brightbill who taught the clinics.
